Fine Artist 1990-Present
I began my professional journey as a fine artist around 1990. After about 10 years I realized the art industry was not ready for me as a black female artist or my “Art Brut”.
I laid down my brushes in 2004 when I had my son. I had to be responsible but I was not willing to “Get a real job, as everyone to told me to do. Somehow I was not worthy of the right or privilege. I disagree with that notion. I continued on as a creative entrepreneur in commercial art and didn’t look at painting again until Covid lock downs 18 years later.
My son is 18 now. My businesses are equally mature. I had to take up the practice again for my own mental health. Lucky for me, black female artists are more than celebrated in the art circles I was not welcome in before.
I am hopeful. I create nonetheless.
2010-Present
I am one of the first Flash Designers. My concepts from 2000 are now commonplace in video animation for the web. After being layed off from Adobe in 2001, I determined to be a pioneer in whatever I do in the future. My second chance at this was in 2010 when I noticed that TV tattoos looked incredibly fake.
Using my 20 years of airbrushing skills I developed a technique of airbrushing tattoos that remains to be the most efficient and realistic way to represent tattoos in a way that is believable.
I continue this endeavor to this day.
